Tall Tales by the Groomsmen

Its been quite the pleasure knowing Pastah Reverend Docta Charles Jason Penick! (What I call him) I can honestly say that after our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I am the sole reason he is still standing today. I have been his rock since Freshmen year at Oakwood and remain so even to this day. Whether it was doing his Embryology drawings for him when he injured himself, being his personal chef and maid around the apartment, reminding him when Critical Reviews were due, keeping him active musically and making him sing (I can go on forever), I am responsible for the kind, honest, loving man that everyone sees today. Seriously, I’m thankful to have Charles in my life. He’s one of the most kind-hearted people I know. He truly has a commitment to God and serving others and that’s something I’ve always admired about him. Words truly can’t express how excited and proud that he has found his one true love, the one God kept him for in Anna. I wish them nothing but the best and look forward to the amazing things God has in store for them. Charles, I’ve taught you well over the years and have every confidence you’ll be an amazing husband. Continue to keep God first and enjoy the ride that is marriage! Love you bro!

Long, long ago… Far, far away… In the land where the oaks grow and one entered to learn, and departed to serve, I met Charles “Charlie” Penick. He stayed a few doors down from me in Peterson Hall during our freshman year of college and also stayed on the mentors’ wing with me the next year. God has a way of putting the right people in your path at the right time and Charles has truly been another brother to me, one that is spirit filled and led. How could someone not want to be around a person that always has a smile and a word of encouragement? Our days at Oakwood were filled with many nights and early mornings of cramming for exams. By junior year we both decided that we would tryout the college choir. Charles voice was so amazing that Mal gave him a solo for the Christmas concert. By senior year we were all excited about the prospects of going to medical school together. One of my favorite moments with Charles was when my mom, brother, and I visited him and his family in San Diego during the summer between undergrad and medical school. I swam in the Pacific Ocean for the first time that day, and on that day vowed to never do it again. Gosh! It was way too cold. But the kayaking was so much fun. Once both of us were at Loma Linda we would occasionally study together just like old times. I also convinced Charles to join the praise team at Rubidoux. I am so blessed to have a brother like Charles. I wish him and Anna a happy life together!!

I remember the first time I met Charles in high school at a summer program in Loma Linda. We were roommates for 3 weeks and I thought we had such a great time that when I found out were going to the same college I excitedly asked Charles if he wanted to be roommates in the dorm. Unfortunately Charles relayed that I did not meet his 3 criteria to room with him in college:

1. The roommate must use at least 4 different hair products while washing hair, one of which must be raw coconut juice and the other which must be freshly picked avocado
2. The roommate must use as part of his regular vocabulary words like “tubular”, “stoked”, or “bodacious” when describing things that are good.
3. Most importantly. The roommate must never impede Charles from eating out of ancillary receptacles like cafeteria trash cans, regular household trash cans, or expired foods including milk and 2 week old pizza.
Despite the fact that I did not receive the honor of being his roommate in college, Charles has grown to be one of my closest friends. There are not many people in this world who have a pure heart, but Charles is one of them. Whenever you are in need, Charles will be there 30 minutes late, but he will always be there. Being around Charles has taught me (Type A personality) to sit back and cherish the experiences and relationships around me.
I am so happy that someone convinced Anna to say yes, lol, j/k. Anna is truly getting a rarity in a future husband today, and Charles likewise in a wife. I am so happy for them both and look forward to see what God has in store for their union.

Various Vignettes by the Bridesmaids

Anna and Jenna met at Azusa Pacific University and became fast friends over their love for Whole Foods and football games. Their friendship deepened when Anna moved in with the Schuette family one summer, and quickly became part of the family. Despite college transfers and moves across the world, Anna and Jenna have remained like sisters. Jenna lives in Washington, DC with her husband David.

Anna and I have been friends for many years, but it feels like we were
born to be sisters! In fact, we’ve just come to believe we are. There is
never a dull moment when you’re with us! We love to dance, sing, laugh
and study all things nutrition together. Anna has been such a blessing
in my life and I couldn’t feel more honored to be a part of the wedding.
Anna has the most beautiful and giving heart and she’s truly found the
man God created perfectly for her! Anna and Charles are a match made in
Heaven! Now, let’s celebrate!
